HOME GYM TIPS: Top 5 tips to consider when choosing a home gym

There are so many options when it comes to home gyms. Just do a Google search and you will see what I mean.

On top of that there are many different training styles (weight training, body-weight training, resistance....plyometrics....suspension.....etc....). And then of course when it comes to a home gym you also have individual needs of each of your family members that you need to consider.

WOW! No wonder you get decision fatigue when selecting a home gym. And no wonder home gyms often turn into white elephants, because you just did not get the right gym, right?

Here are my top 5 tips to consider when choosing a suitable home gym:

1. Exercise versatility:

I have been keeping active at home for 8 years now and I can tell you that it gets boring to do the same exercise over and over again. Choosing a system on which I can do many different exercises and training styles keeps training at home exciting!

2. Multi-user:

Everybody knows that training with somebody is fun and motivates you. So when choosing a home gym, make sure it can cater for more than 1 person at once.

3. Quality:

Choosing the right home gym is not easy and not something you want to do often. So rather save up and buy high quality equipment that will last you a life-time than buying low quality equipment that needs to be replaced often.

4. Space friendly:

Fitness is important to you and your entire family. That is why I recommend that a home gym needs to be integrated into a space in your home where you and your family are often. Not hidden away in a back room where nobody really wants to spend time. Gym equipment that do not take up to much space or that can be stowed away when not in use, really makes it possible to put in a part of your home where you enjoy spending time. (Believe me, fitness is tough enough, so make the space a place where you want to be).

5. Stick to the basics:

Technology is great, but I always say that many things have changed over the last 100 years. However one of the things that has not changed in the last 5000 years are our bodies. So be careful buying into new tech and fads when purchasing a home gym. Your fitness need is not a trend or the latest season's fashion line. It needs the same things it has always needed since the beginning of time. Gym equipment that help you with basic movements will always be of value. And the less electronic the equipment the less maintenance and the less the probability of you being frustrated when there is load-shedding etc..
